In an almost weird bit of prescience, I broke up with Michelle Wolf’s The Break just days before Netflix did. The several articles I read announcing it reported that Netflix hadn’t offered a reason for the cancellation, and speculated on connections with an apparent history of failed talk shows. Netflix just bad at talk shows, was the implication.
Let me offer another reason, perhaps the real reason. The show was awful. It was painfully not funny, nor was it terribly creative. It tried hard to be, but the result was usually more like a bad SNL script. And, regrettably, Ms Wolf may not be a good choice for talk show host.
After hanging in there since the beginning, I just couldn’t any more. I had to bail.

It’s been a week since Jon Stewart hosted his final The Daily Show…

Jon Stewart: A man who was on TV.
I still haven’t recovered. I may never recover. [salty goggles]
Jon, you will be missed. Sorely.

You’ve probably heard the news by now. First Stephen Colbert leaves his show, and now Jon Stewart is leaving The Daily Show.
Wow. I’m seriously bummed about that. He’s been voted The Most Trusted Name in News (an honorific held by the great Walter Cronkite). Now what are we gonna do?
Topping it off, his friend Brian Williams turns out to have feet (or at least a few toes) of clay. Kind of ironic considering the TV commercials NBC was recently pushing about how trusted he is.
Just how many Signs of the Apocalypse does that make?
To quote Professor Farnsworth, “I don’t want to live on this planet any more!”
And that’s the way it is, February 16, 2015.

Sometimes you encounter someone who seems to really hit the nail on the head in terms of how they see the world. The brilliance of these moments is that — especially if you tend to be a social outlier — you’re given the gift of knowing you’re not alone. There are people who not only see the world as you do, but see it even more clearly and intelligently than you ever could.
Leon Wieseltier appeared on The Colbert Report last Tuesday (Oct 7), and I was so blown away by his words that I kept rewinding and rewinding so I could write it all down and record here what he said.
I was especially impressed by his ten-word critique of modern society!

If you’re a fan of television you may know that David Letterman is retiring in 2015 and that his replacement is Stephen Colbert! If you’re not at all a fan of television, it’s possible you don’t know Stephen Colbert, who is the two in the one-two punch of Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show and Stephen Colbert‘s The Colbert Report.
One thing that makes Colbert stand out is how he plays a character who shares his name. Sort of. Stephen Colbert is a parody person played by Stephen Colbert. The fake is highly conservative, utterly ego-maniacal and massively ignorant. Part of the schtick is that Colbert usually appears in public — even testifying before Congress — as Colbert.
So I’m looking forward to seeing the Colbert behind the Colbert mask!

Warning: This is a 100% pure foul-mouthed rant…
You’ve been warned.
It’s been quite some time since I’ve been able to watch any of the cable news networks. I used to watch Fox just to see the other point of view, but their lies and bias were finally more than I could stomach.
