Political Pendulum

For those who value character and honesty, politics has become increasingly depressing. To put it mildly. There never really was any hope the enthralled and craven Republican members of Congress would defy their cult leader. It’s a pity the Democrats didn’t play their hand better, but at least we got the asterisk in the history book.

And then we get kicked in the nuts by Iowa in what, make no mistake, was a stunning case of incompetence and stupidity. This was an unforced double (or triple) error I’ll rant about more when I learn more details.

One thing is clear: This is going to be a very strange — and no doubt very ugly — 2020 political season.

Predictive Art

Do you think this is art? (Or just something your kid could do?)

“Coffee Thyme” by Sam Gilliam, 1980, crayon

Your opinion on this turns out to be highly correlated with your opinion about our current (miserable excuse for a) President.

Fake News

Lying piece of worthless dumbass shit!

Of all the myriad character flaws, each of which should disqualify him from being a dog catcher, let alone hold high public office, here’s another: The complete inability to admit a mistake, let alone learn from one.

Anyone who supports him, or votes for him now, is just as bad as he is.

“Individual Number One”

Robert Mueller appears before Congress tomorrow…

But will it amount to anything in the current political-social climate, is the question. The last few years make that an iffy proposition.

An Ill Wind Blows

Posted a while back, but even more relevant now:

We ought to be able to run a moldy orange against him and win by a landslide, but parts of this country are in fully embracing their ugly underbelly. It’s feeling like the 1960s again.

No Slamming!

I have a proposition for all of us on the left. Starting now, let’s not support any Democratic candidate who slams another Democratic candidate (for any reason). Let’s make them focus on the Pumpkin Goblin and the Republican party.

Let’s make them allow us, the voters, to decide between their proposed solutions. Don’t make us take sides, one against each other, for that way we will surely all lose.

Breaking Wrong

For years friends have been urging me towards the TV show Breaking Bad. They tell me about how the writing is so good, and the drama so engaging. The problem I have is that it stars, not just a meth dealer, but a meth maker. For me that’s a deal breaker that no writing is good enough to overcome. Nothing is worth inviting a meth maker into my life on a regular basis.

I see a parallel in how people accept Trump even when they do see him for the idiot and creep that he is. In this case, it’s certainly not good writing (or good governing) they seek, it’s getting their way that makes them support an ignorant, incompetent, greedy, narcissistic racist.

I gotta ask: Have we gotten too willing to embrace human failure?
