Congrats to the Kansas City Royals for winning the MLB American League Wildcard game!!
And what an awesome game it was — an amazing kickoff to the 2014 post-season. Oakland off to a quick start with two runs at the top of the first and Kansas City answering immediately with one in the bottom. Royals take the lead in the third only to lose it in what seemed a game-losing pitching change in the sixth. By the time the dust settles Oakland drives in five runs. Royals get three back in the eighth, tie it up in the ninth, and we’re off to extra innings.
The A’s finally get a run in the twelfth, the Royals tie it up again and then a walk-off hit by catcher Salvador Perez (who has a .167 batting average) wins the game for Kansas City!
Good going guys!! Party like it’s 1985! Go Royals! Go all the way!!
Addendum (later that day): With the Royals win, I’m 1-for-1 on hopes. If the Pirates win tonight, I’ll be 2-for-2! I’ve decided I want to see a “Central Hoedown Showdown!” Pirates take the Giants tonight (and another Bay Area team goes home); Royals somehow beat the Angels; Pirates somehow beat the Nationals; Tigers take the Orioles; Cardinals take the Dodgers (I’m iffy on that; not a Cards fan). Ultimately it comes down to Royals and Pirates with the Royals taking home the bacon.
Yeah, I know. It’s more likely to end up Nats and Tigers (or maybe Nats and O’s), but I can dream!

As you know, Smitty, I don’t follow baseball, but it makes me happy to see how happy it makes you! ❤

XD And I, of course, and in turn, am happy that you’re happy that I’m happy! 🐻

If you’re happy that I’m happy that you’re happy clap your hands… 😉

It took a lot time digging out the mental files from childhood — they’re buried under so much other crap — but I finally remembered the song! “If you’re happy and you know it and you really wanna show it, if you’re happy and you know it clap your hands!” [Did I get it right?]
Now if I could only remember what it’s from… Sunday School, maybe?
((Do you know the one that starts off about raindrops on the window? “Joy Is Like the Rain,” maybe? Ring any bells? It was one of my favorites.))

Yes Smitty, you got it! I heard the song first outside of a church context and then as an adult I heard in Church with slightly different words, instead of clap your hands they said say amen and another verse said praise the Lord.
I have never heard the Joy is like the rain song but googled it and found this:
Is that it?

Yes! That’s the one! It was a favorite of mine (part of my piano repertoire), and I always really loved its message. I believe it was written by a Catholic Nun. (Yes, apparently there really are Singing Nuns!) Thanks for the video link; it was sweet and soul-filling to hear it again.
(I think I’ve heard the “Say Amen” version of that first song, too.)

Glad it made your day!!

Yeah, but it’s now balanced with the bummer of the Pirates losing last night. Losing in your own ballpark is bad enough, but being shut-out in your own ballpark? Humiliating. Bummed fans in Pittsburgh to match the joyous fans in KC. Oh, well, so goes the bouncing baseball. Pittsburgh had another winning season, and that’s not nothing.
Hopes for a “Central Hoedown Showdown” dashed, but it was a pretty unlikely long shot!
