Recent careful analysis of the early images from Pluto have turned up results that are astonishing and yet, perhaps, not surprising:

This explains a great deal…
I can’t take credit. I found this on that interweb tubes thing. The only credit, which I’ll echo, was: “Thank you, internet!”
I’ll say this: someone has an excellent eye to spot that possibility! Now I see the dog (not the “heart”) every time I look at that original image. (Like seeing the baker in the USA.)

I’m really happy they sent this image back from Pluto. Do we know any other things that the probe is going to do? Dangit, I want telemetry from interstellar space!

It was pretty cool watching the live feed from NH Mission Control as the “Phone Home” signal was picked up and each station reported in. I just watched today’s live teleconference and saw the new pics. Impressive!
This is a good place to see what New Horizons is doing: http://pluto.jhuapl.edu/Mission/The-Flyby.php

He…I guess you can ignore my last comment on your other post. Damn. I thought I was so clever.

Judging by the link you put in that other comment, quite a few people saw the “dog” in the “heart” image. I see they included the version I found as well as several others. The one they featured at the top of the article is the best, I thought. Wish I’d found that one instead!

I like saying the “dog on the planet Pluto,” becoming part of our vocabulary like the “man on the moon!” 🙂

Heh! A lot harder to see way out there, though! It took nine-and-a-half years flying faster than any spacecraft we’ve ever sent out there to get that snapshot! XD
