TV Tuesday 2/24/26

The last edition of TV Tuesday ended with the line: “There’s more to report, but I’ve hit my word ceiling and will abruptly stop.” That was three weeks ago, so now there’s even more to report. (Baseball starts soon, and that will have a big impact on how many shows and movies I can watch.)

That last post focused on movies I’d seen. This time much of the focus in on a related pair of TV shows I finished watching. One is a French TV series about a female “Sherlock Holmes” who works as a police consultant. The other is its American adaptation.

I like the French original better. (No surprise there, right?)

A Christmas Carol

Scrooge and MarleyMost of us have traditional ways of celebrating or observing the re-occurring events in our lives. An anniversary might call for dinner at a certain restaurant. A promotion or sale might call for buying a round of drinks. The great life milestones—births, graduations, weddings, retirements, deaths—all come heavily freighted with traditional behaviors.

For me, an important tradition at Christmas time is watching—and reading—the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol! I think it is one of the most engaging, endearing, wonderful and important stories ever. It is a story of redemption and re-discovery of lost joy. And it is an affirmation that how we choose to live our lives matters.

Plus it has ghosts!

Sideband #15: Funniest moments

An earlier Sideband references the, “These go to eleven,” bit from This is Spinal Tap. As I mentioned, some people I know consider it one of the funniest bits in all of film, but the phrasing I just used should clue you in that it’s not mine.

Make no mistake, I do consider it a classic moment, a very funny moment, and a moment that has become a cultural icon. But it didn’t make me laugh until I hurt too much to laugh anymore.

And that begs the question, “So what are those funniest moments?”
